{eBook Tour} Interview with Dale Mayer, Author of the Family Blood Ties series

Please welcome Dale Mayer to the House Millar. She has managed to sneak away from her demanding characters for a little while and stopped by to let us pick her brain a bit, lol.

Where were you born and where do you call home?

I was born in Ottawa, Ontario and currently call the beautiful Okanagan home.

What or who inspired you to write?  And how long have you been writing?

I never had a specific inspiration to start this journey, but always had the thought in the back of my mind to start writing. I’ve now been writing for a decade!

If you gave some of your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say?

They talk now! They constantly tell me their stories and berate me when I don’t get it quite right.

Which character speaks the loudest, to you? Do any of them clamour to be heard over the others?

They tend to scream. I have several that sit on my shoulder and nag me to death.

Do your characters try to make like bunnies and create ever more convoluted plots for you? Or do you have to coax them out of your characters?

My characters create the most twisted plots anyone could imagine. And they freely order me to do their bidding 🙂

Have you based any of your characters on someone you know, or real events in your own life?

No. I’m careful to keep reality and fiction a long ways apart.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I’m a pantser. So if opening a blank page and pouring out 90k plus length books is a style – then that’s mine!

It is a style! Glad to meet a fellow pantser 😉
How did you come up with the title?

The titles almost always come to me early on the writing. I can’t say that’s an area that causes me any trouble. Now revising on the other hand…

Do you have plans for a new book?  Is this book part of a series?

This is part of a series and book 3 is a nugget in my head, but not as yet developed enough to consider writing. My plate is a little too full to add another project at the moment.

Where do you see yourself in five (5) years?

Buried in books! I’m seeing the start of the avalanche now. It could be a major event down the road. I never seem to run out of ideas, although I understand that’s a possibility, and would expect to have another 20 plus books out by then!

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Hmmm. Maybe the Caribbean. I love the ocean and the beaches.  Not so fond of cold winters, unless I get to snowboard and ski my time away!

Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?

I prefer paperbooks but love the convenience of ebooks.

Are you a self published (Indie) Author or big trad published?

Both! I am published in nonfiction as a traditional publisher and chose to go the Indie route with my fiction.

What do you think makes a book a really good/bestseller ?

Characters that grab a hold of the reader and won’t let go. Plots that are fast paced and keep the reader turning the pages are next and to top it off, there needs to be great writing!

Have you ever suffered from a "writer’s block"? What did you do to get past the "block"?

Nope. I’d like to ‘block’ my characters sometimes though!

Have you ever read a book more than once?

Lots of my books on my shelves are ‘keeper’ books and I go in stages of rereading my old favorites.

What book are you currently reading and in what format (ebook/ paperback/ hardcover)?

I’m currently rereading my Jayne Ann Krentz collection.
Do you have any advice for other writers?

Cats or dogs?

Cat

White wine or red?

White!

Coffee or tea?

Dark, black and preferably espresso styled java!

Favourite food?

Any edible, sigh.

Vanilla or chocolate ice cream?

Chocolate!

Laptop or desktop for writing?

Laptop

Where and when do you prefer to do your writing?

Anywhere and any time!

One of your favourite quotes –

Go Big Or Go Home – and I have no idea who said that first!

REVIEWS:

5 stars! Original YA vampire story.
“Vampire in Denial by Dale Mayer is a delightfully different addition to the teen vamp paranormal genre. Can’t wait for the sequel.” (Charlotte)

5 stars! Do love.
“This is the first book I’ve read from Dale Mayer and I’m sure going to be reading more because this is my new favorite vampire romance book since Twilight!” (PrincessZelda))

5 stars! Another exciting series from Dale Mayer
“Oh, book! You were so FUN! I was getting all tense and worried about how poor Tessa was going to prove herself and it was exciting and I desperately wanted her to realize that her tangled up feelings about a certain someone were not all brotherly. But, but…why did you leave me hanging on such a cliffhanger?!?! I MUST KNOW what’s going to happen to her!

In most ways, Tessa is an average teenage girl. Her parents don’t really understand her, she feels like she’s caught between two worlds and she’s not sure if the boy she likes likes her back. The fact that she’s a vampire who’s literally caught between two worlds doesn’t change any of that. Her parents really don’t have a clue how hard it is for her, a genetic throwback, and no one in her family understands that how the full-blood vampires treat her like a stupid little girl.

All in all, this was a fun, fast read with a girl who definitely came into her own as the story progressed. I thought Cody and his slow revelations about Tessa were adorable. I like how her mother rose up to defend Tessa once things were brought to her attention. I like that Tessa wasn’t willing to abandon a friend, even if he was "only human".

I can only guess as to where the next book in this story is heading but I’m DYING to read it now. DYING, Dale Mayer. DYING!” (Kelly Rubidoux)

4 Stars! Exciting first installment in a new YA vampire series!
“This book managed to stand out amongst the plethora of vampire novels out there. I liked how vampires had different abilities and how some of them, like Tessa, seemed more human than vampire (i.e. could be out in the daylight, didn’t crave blood). It added a bunch of new dimensions to the world and I’m liking where the series is going.

This really was a great read. I was entirely able to relate with Tessa and enjoyed watching her change throughout the story. Just a warning, the author leaves us with one heck of a cliffhanger, so I can only hope that the next book comes out soon!” (Jamie “Bookerella”)

Like every other geek alive, Newfoundland native Joseph O’Reily secretly wants to be a superhero. At thirteen he fantasized about being a vampire, and ten years later he’s still fantasizing – but mostly about a beautiful redheaded woman who has eyes only for him. The one thing different about Joseph’s adult fantasy is that, amazingly, it comes true one night when he goes to a local university pub. Cassandra Snow, literally the woman of his dreams, invites him to her place for an evening of personal pleasure. Of course he’s not going to say no. But when strange things start happening afterward, Joseph quickly learns that not all dreams should come true.

Cassandra has plans for him – forever. And those plans don’t include daytime activities. An animal lover and recent vegetarian, Joseph wrestles with all the weird changes he’s experiencing after his encounter with Cassandra. Eternal youth and amazing power come at a price that is perhaps higher than he can afford. The constant hunger for blood and the secrets Cassandra harbors test his resolve and his mental and physical limits. And then there’s the fact that a two-hundred-year-old vampire is after his head – literally.

Joseph’s night vision improves dramatically, giving him a glimpse of the darker side of the world and the terrible evil of vampires who walk among humans. As he tries to balance his regular life with the new reality of his vampire existence, he is determined to hold onto his personal convictions and what he values most A– his humanity.

Interview: Mistress Anya @ Jeanz Book …

Interview with Anya Millar

Blood's Voice & Blood Bound Virtual Tour

A lovely young woman, I believe her name was Peony, led me out onto the veranda of the beautiful home that is the House Millar.  The charming Mistress Anya was already waiting on me.  She even though of my human needs – a snack and drink were laid out on the small table beside the empty chair.  Once I was settled Anya offered me tea as I thanked her for this rare opportunity.

Thank you for allowing me this inside peek into what makes you, you.

You are quite welcome.  I don’t mind speaking to others as long and they remember the rules.  *wink*  Though, you have to by default, being human and all.

True.  I’ll start off with an easy one.  You’re a vampire?

Yes.  Though I’m an aberration in my world.  I refuse to kill humans just to live.  I am not fluffy though – so do not underestimate me or those you see that live here.  We are lethal when we need to be but humans are off the diet.
