Summary of Blood’s Voice

Anya Millar had no memory of her life or an instruction manual on how to navigate the insane world of humans, biting, and reality. Instead, Anya has had to learn to navigate the world of love, life, and sanity while avoiding those that would see her dead or enslaved.

Anya must come to terms with who she is and her missing past, Nicholas must win back the object of his eternal love while dealing with new cravings in his silent heart, and Declán must learn to destroy the very creatures that he has unequivocally given his heart and blood.

This is the ongoing journey of Anya and Nicholas, human loving vampires and the human they love, Declán. What makes it all more complicated is that they are abominations in their own world and Declán is a natural born vampire hunter called a Guardian.

“Blood’s Voice is a dark paranormal story. The author does an excellent job of creating real and fascinating characters you can’t help but want to know more about. It was unique and an original spin on vampires. You won’t be disappointed. Clues to Anya’s lost past will keep you turning page after page to find out her secrets. Romance. Suspense. Action. Don’t miss it.” – Krystal Shannan

Thursday Tasters ~ Blood's Voice

Welcome to today’s taste. It’s from my soon to be re-released novel Blood’s Voice (unedited version used). Blood’s Voice is a new adult, paranormal romance focusing on Anya, Declán and Nicholas (Declán is the only human in the triad, btw). We join Anya today as she finally sees Nicholas for the first time… again.

Coming March 15th 2014
Attraction, Love, & Enchantment.
Blood’s Voice – Áine P Massie, #CHBB

“Hello, my name is Nicholas.” He gave me a gentle smile and offered me his hand. “I hope you don’t mind I came personally instead of sending someone.”

In front of me stood a young man of perhaps twenty – well physically. He wasn’t human, so no telling how old he actually was. He stood at eye level to me in my heels, so he was a little over six feet, maybe six-one or six-two, icy pale skin – much lighter than mine – with rather fascinating auburn and blond hair down to his shoulders. He had the most enchanting blue eyes – the same clear blue found in snorkelling areas around ocean reefs – not the black-void ‘devil eyes’ Star had told me those that hunt humans have, thankfully. Beautiful!

He gave a soft chuckle, still with his hand out, “I won’t bite,” he said with a wink, “honest.”

“Again!” Geoff barked.

His voice dripped annoyance, as usual. He had me training like Declán, though I didn’t train with Declán. They – Geoff, Jonathan, Nicholas, and Louie – had all certified Declán ‘insane and ready’ to use his skills for something other than ‘playing’ with them. Okay, so he’s not technically insane, I just worry about my human love risking his life hunting our kind – well, the murderous vampires anyway. Annoyingly enough, I still wasn’t allowed to even watch him practice. “This time pretend you actually want to do damage.” Geoff sighed.

Scowling back at him, I retook my stance. I wasn’t allowed to speak. That was considered cheating. We were working on one-on-one combat today, though I still didn’t see why. If it wasn’t at least small groups, then why would I need to fight physically?

“The rules of engagement are simple, Anya – strike. No mercy – strike. Once the commitment is made – kill. Don’t let them touch you – destroy. You cannot appear weak – annihilate. There will be times you can’t rely on your voice as you saw already during your rescue of Nicholas. How would you have fared without being able to fight? Also, it might help you focus some of those cravings that have awakened within you.” Geoff continued with his lecture as he attacked again.

He claimed that I needed to learn not to hyper-focus on just the combat. That I must learn to hear and see all around me, never letting my focus settle for too long. While I understood the logic, and even agreed, I preferred to use my voice to solve issues rather than violence. Okay, so I’m a weird vampire . . . What else is new?

Running forward, I dropped down, catching him hard in the hip, spinning him up and back into a wall. Seemed he hadn’t expected that form of attack. Good. He rolled before I could get to him again, but was unable to make it back to his feet. With a growl, I landed atop him, slamming him to the ground, knees in his back with my nails into the back of his neck. I barely remembered not to  dig them in. From out of nowhere, strong arms pulled me back and slammed me to the floor. I didn’t even feel the hit. It didn’t register at first who held me, as I managed to evade the attempt to pin me.

The growling continued as I flipped around landing a solid kick to the ribs of my attacker while trying to keep up with where Geoff was. He again attempted to strike at me, catching my arm enough to cause mild pain but not clamping down, allowing me to spin out of his grasp and avoid the attempted blow to my back. Nicholas!

It didn’t matter that there were now two attackers coming from different directions. I leapt up to grab the beam above, and the two crashed into each other. Memories of trainings I’d had before may be lacking, but my instincts to survive worked just fine, much to everyone’s confusion and annoyance.

Dropping back down and into a low crouch, I moved forward as they untangled their legs. Springing on Nicholas, I slammed him down on top of Geoff and bent to nip the back of his neck before sliding away. “Stop,” I commanded.

Both Nicholas and Geoff stopped moving. They didn’t even breathe Hmm, Nicholas is bleeding, guess I should do something to fix that. “You both can talk. Just no attacking right now, please.

“Now, Nicholas, a mhuirnín, you’re bleeding. Geoff, are you hurt any?” Were they mad?

The guys separated, moving to either side of me. Geoff appeared  hurt.

“Um, ow! What was that?” Nicholas asked looking a little wild as he reached up to touch his neck. “You actually bit me!” He looked angry. Oops.

“Sorry, but you attacked me. It was only a nip,” I said defensively. They both should’ve been glad I restrained myself, pulling such stunts! “Stop messing with it, so I can heal you.”

Moving behind Nicholas to heal the small gash in his neck, I spoke to Geoff. “Are you hurt? You’re not standing quite right. And just what was all that about? I nearly took both your heads off.”

“Bloody hell, Anya. This was supposed to be sparing practice.  Spar-ring. You weren’t supposed to actually kill us. I think you broke something; luckily I heal fast.” Geoffrey tenderly touched his side while making a sour face in my direction. “Were you planning to kill us or did restraint come to mind at some point?” he snapped.

“I was restrained, thank you very much. I made sure not to drive my fingers into your neck, leaving your head neatly attached and unharmed. I only nipped Nicholas as opposed to what could have happened. And, if I recall your initial instructions, I was supposed to strike without weakness or mercy. Now will you believe that this is too dangerous? I have no desire to harm either of you, especially not considering you got Nicholas in on this. It’s so hard not to let myself get caught up in the power and pleasure of using my strength.

“I’ve tried to make you all understand that this is not a game for me. I know what I am capable of and you, Nicholas,” I grumbled, folding my arms across my chest. “You, of all people, should know better. What if I’d lost control and really hurt you? I couldn’t bear that. Please,” I begged. I understood they wanted to make me powerful and protected, but this was not safe for them.

“Maybe she’s right, Geoff. I know she could have done much worse with only a little more effort. I’d hate to be the one she actually wanted to hurt.” Nicholas rubbed absently at the now healed spot on his neck.

“Um, I suppose,” Geoff sulked. “I just worry about her getting taken or destroyed while she’s out running around. She so rarely thinks of her own protection.

“I would imagine you’re exquisite to watch in true combat sis, but I think I’d like that to not be with me again. At least not for a while. I’m going up and see if Peony would like to play nurse.”

As he shuffled towards the stairs, I noticed his right hip was also not moving correctly. He’d be fine shortly, healing being easy for us, but it bothered me that I managed to hurt them both while restrained. This was the precise issue that made me so afraid, again, of my relationship with Declán. I hated what Marcus and his House., had turned me into – like being a vampire wasn’t deadly enough . . . no, they had to torture me until I cracked. Yet without what I was now . . . how would I protect my family?

Author Ambuse @ Literal Addiction

AUTHOR AMBUSH WITH THE MISTRESS OF HOUSE MILLAR

It’s wonderful to be here at Literal Addiction. Thanks for hosting the kickoff to my New Release Tour. For those that don’t know me, and I know you’re out there, I’m Áine P Massie, paranormal romance author and honorary member of the House Millar.

House Millar is both the name of the series and the name of the Vampire House led by Mistress Anya, vampire aberration. Her’s is the only House dedicated to aberrant vampires and the protection of humans (I’m sure you’re stretching your head about that but she prefers to love her humans, not eat them 😉 ).

I thought, in honour of Blood Bound’s release (February 29th) I’d let you meet the core triad of the House. You can even leave questions, if you’d like, and the characters will graciously stop by later today to respond. Just remember, never piss off a vampire. Human loving or not, their tempers are not for mere mortals.

Special Guests at Breaking Bookshelves

Hello ladies, gents, and other mythological creatures possibly lurking around! We have special guests today here at Breaking Bookshelves. Three very attractive, very wonderful, and very interesting individuals who have gone through enormous obstacles only to find themselves being interviewed here (jeeze, I’m sorry for the lackluster interview space guys). I’d like all you readers to meet and welcome Nicholas, Declán, and Anya from Blood’s Voice and Blood Bound!

~*~

Hahaha, oh my~ So, on to some lighter questions? What are your favourite books? Movies? Music?

Anya: Favourite? Oh, I have no idea. I love reading and immersing myself in the worlds and adventures with the pages of my ever growing collection. I mean, I have a reading room as part of my bedroom suite plus we have a House library and that’s not even counting the fact I have both a Kindle and a Nook.
Music would have to be everything! Though, right now I’m really into Godsmack, Muse, and Blue October. I don’t really watch many movies . . . preferring to read and ‘watch’ the story of the book in my head. I do really enjoy some of the more cult classic movies Nicholas and Declán have introduced me to though, especially Princess Bride and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
OHHH, seems like we have a few things in common there 😀

Nicholas: Oddly, I’d have to say Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, I think. Probably considered an odd answer from a nearly 200 year old guy, but I just love the insanity and logic of Wonderland.
Most of my preferred music choice fall under Mozart, Beethoven, or anything from the Phantom of the Opera – and yes, that’s also my favourite play and movie.
Not odd at all Nicholas, it’s a classic~ And Phantom of the Opera is amazing!

Declán: Um, *blushing* most of my fav books and such are on architecture, design, and material style. Okay, so maybe I’m a little geeky, but I look great in leather while reading them. 😀
On music . . . um, most anything. Just not hateful rap – like the angry kind that degrades women – or the really whiny country. I like some western though. The Man in Black was awesome! 😀 Especially when he did all the alternative covers and such not long before he died. Gotta love Hurt when he did it.
Movie? Right now would still have to be E.T. but the original version . . . not the reedited one that’s out now.
Haha, a little geeky goes a long way! I for one love my boys with a little bit of geek and nerd. 😛 AND oh yes, The Man in Black~ (E.T. was an awesome movie).

Tour Recap:

Remembrance Day (Canada – 2011)

Remembering Canadians Who Fought and Died in War

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the time the Armistice of World War I was signed in 1918, we observe two minutes of silence to remember.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

~John McCrae, 1915

Tour: Interview with Nicholas and Giveaway

Character Interview and Giveaway with Áine P. Massie, author of Blood’s Voice and Blood Bound

Hi, everyone!

I am pleased to participate in Áine P. Massie’s Virtual Book Tour for Blood’s Voice (Book #1) and Blood Bound (Book #2) of the House Millar Series presented by Geas Publishing.

Welcome to Darlene’s Book Nook, Áine!

We are doing something a little different today. Rather than an interview or guest post, we are going to do a Character Interview with my favourite character from Blood’s Voice.

Character Interview with the Vampire Nicholas of The House Millar Series:

Thank you for allowing me this inside peek into what makes you, you.
Settling down in the chair across from me, I note Nicholas is dressed in tight black slacks, hair styled perfectly, leather bracer on his right wrist and over-sized watch on a biker band on the other, topped with a dark blueberry silk dress shirt.  The shirt was unbuttoned more than just the collar and at the bottom just a little.
Thank you for the invitation.  I love your site, by the way.

Now to the fun part… to view the interview and enter to win a copy of Blood’s Voice click on the banner or click HERE.
