Excerpt

Stopping, he spun around looking at me with a strange, hungry glint. The look in his eyes set me ablaze in that moment. I struggled to maintain my control. I’m even more dangerous to him now than I ever have been before . . .

“Declán, a ghrá, what’s gotten into you?”

He didn’t speak. He reached out, grabbing my wrists, and started pushing me back into the tree that was just behind us. Pressing me into it, he covered my mouth with his, kissing me as he let out a whimpering moan. His mouth was hungry, and his body eager. My skin felt like it was burning everywhere he touched.

His attack knocked me off centre, and I lost more than a bit of my restraint. His heat, his intoxicating and maddening scent pushing me further . . . The craving for him was so exquisite, so painful. His sapphire eyes blazed as his body arched towards me, crushing me. Lifting me, he greedily devoured my kisses, clutching me tighter. My legs wrapped around him automatically. His fingers twisted in my hair pulling me tight against his lips. Letting out a rapturous moan, he pulled his face back arching his neck to me. I pressed my lips to the moist skin of his throat, feeling the pulsing, the dance of life beckoning to me – enchanted and tormented by the sweet fragrances that encompassed his being. I allowed my teeth to graze his skin.

No, no, no. This is too dangerous. I have to stop. I pulled away from his luscious throat but he used the grip on my hair to stop me. I watched with a surreal fascination as he pressed some strange metal object – it looked vaguely like a curved, sharpened thimble – into the flesh of his own neck and pulled me back to his neck.

What the hell . . . Oh Gods.

With a sudden gasp, I lost control. The moment his blood touched my tongue that strange ecstasy filled me again. This elixir, intoxicating and luscious, drove me into a frenzied euphoria, my body singing in delight. It was pure rapture as all of me delighted in the gift of his existence.

It was over so soon, almost too soon, as I was able to still keep my mind restrained, thankfully. I started to pull away, nicking my tongue and teasing lightly over the wounds with my blood – no need for him to hold the wounds.

“Why did you–”

Praise for Blood Bound

Áine gave me even more reasons than ever to love her strong and charismatic cast of characters. Each stepped up their game in the newest book. I will be looking forward to the next instalment of House Millar, which I understand will not be from Anya’s point of view. Sounds interesting.  If you love a good vampire story… Blood’s Voice and Blood Bound are great choices.

A wonderful read. ~ Kyanara @ Kyanara’s Mad Reviews

I would definitely say this series is for young adult paranormal romance lovers. Although it’s a book about vampires, there are some surprisingly well thought out themes that play through out the book.
~ Vanessa Booke @ Boekies Book Reviews

She [Anya] claims her position as Mistress in more ways than one and she does so very well. I especially liked the “letter” at the end! Definitely got me ready for book three!
~ Christina Irelan @ Intoxicated By Books

I was pulled right into the story. This book starts right where the last one ended. I enjoyed reading more about Anya’s back-story and got to know some more characters and their back stories. I recommend this book for paranormal romance fans for its sensual scenes and titillating drama.

About the Author

Áine P Massie is originally from Florida, she now lives in Wisconsin where she works on her House Millar series full time while raising four children (the term herding cats comes to mind). Her major in College was Childhood Education (0-5) with a minor study in Deaf Culture/ASL. She is also a Wiccan priestess dedicated to the gods, family, and love.

A lifelong reader, Áine has always had a particular fascination with vampires, mythology, and the unusual. When she can escape from her children and books, she enjoys . . . oh yes, reading, playing, ritual, a good cappuccino, and working with her healing stones.

Her first published work came in high school where she was part of a writing and drama group. But, she’s been reading the likes of Shakespeare and Poe since late elementary school and enjoys most forms of fiction. Blood’s Voice has been a long time in coming and with its publication (June 2011) Áine embarked on a new chapter in her life.

Áine P Massie is currently working on her third novel, Glamour Blade.

3 1/2 ♥’s Review: Blood's Voice

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ     Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ     Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ     Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ

The concept behind Blood’s Voice is great. I love the story line. Each character, whether it’s a main one or a secondary one, carries their weight throughout the book. As Anya’s memories finally start re-emerging and things get pieced together she discovers that she was being used as a weapon. It is the love and strength of the characters that help her through the "finding out who you really are" stage.

The House Millar #1
Publisher: Geas Publishing

Anya Millar had no memory of her life or an instruction manual on how to navigate the insane world of humans, biting, and reality. Instead, Anya has had to learn to navigate the world of love, life, and sanity while avoiding those that would see her dead or enslaved.

This is the ongoing journey of Anya and Nicholas, human loving vampires and the human they love, Declán. What makes it all more complicated is that they are abominations in their own world and Declán is a natural born vampire hunter called a Guardian.

Anya must come to terms with who she is and her missing past, Nicholas must win back the object of his eternal love while dealing with new cravings in his silent heart, and Declán must learn to destroy the very creatures that he has unequivocally given his heart and blood.

GP: Why A Broken Vamp?

Hello! First I wish to thank Emma for the invitation to do a Guest Post here on The Writer’s Voice. My name is Áine P Massie and I am the author of the House Millar series – Blood’s Voice and Blood Bound.
One question I get over and over is why paranormal and ‘seriously, why a broken vamp?’  I always find these questions and the theme to be a bit odd.  Why does anyone write in a specific genre, or even read a certain type of book? . . .

AUTHOR INTERVIEW – AINE MASSIE

Is there anything in your book/books you would change now if you could and what would it be? T

he biggest complaints I get are about the GBLT and Triad relationships – won’t change those, period. The other is the non-American spelling in the books… but again, there is a reason for that. If the character telling the story had been American the spellings would have been too. (That and I naturally spell colour and centre, lol).

Author Interview at Breaking Bookshelves

Hello one and all! Today we have special guest author, Áine P. Massie, dropping by Breaking Bookshelves and being awesome! She’s agreed to do this little interview here on Breaking Bookshelves just to inform us a little bit about her House Millar series~ So sit back, get some coffee or tea, and enjoy!

That sounds very interesting! I’m guessing it was like getting to know completely new people! What made you decide to write mainly about vampires instead of some other mythological creature? Did you try to stick with original vampire lore?

I have always been fascinated with vampires and the various incarnations, be it in books, comics, movies, etc. Vampires are not the only mythological creatures in the HM series, by the way. Book 3, Glamour Blade, is told from the POV of Sir Rory, a sidhe warrior sent to help the Guardians.

As to original lore . . . Actually, you have to understand that there is no such thing as “original lore” for vampires. Each culture that has believed in blood drinking creatures has also had their own ideas of what those beings looked like, were hurt by, acted like . . . My vampires are day walkers (but technically so was Dracula is you read the old book carefully – it was possible for him to be out in the day), though the sun does weaken them to a nearly human endurance. They cannot eat but they drink if it’s mixed with fresh blood. Their fangs are retractable but when retracted, the eyeteeth are slightly pronounced. They have the currently common beauty and grace but they are allergic to silver.

There are other things about them too but the key is that there is lore basis for each of the main traits my vampires have. No, they’re not Angel or Edward nor are they Dracula or Nick Knight but rather they are the unique, blood drinking beings that inhabit my story world.

What was your biggest influence that steered you towards writing?
Dr. Seuss!  I loved Seuss (still remember reading The Cat In The Hat Comes Back to my mom when I was little and she was sick.  She says it had memorized it by that point and wasn’t really reading but hey… to-ma-to, to-maah-to) and from him learned that you don’t have to think logically, linearly, or ‘normal’ to have fun or be successful.
