Mia Blake wasn’t the first girl that was taken by the vampires.

She had heard all about the girls who were missing, and even though they were only “missing”, she knew in her heart that those girls were dead.

She felt sad for them, sure. But more than that, she felt glad that they had been strangers – not someone she knew, and certainly not her. Things like that didn’t happen to girls like her.

They always happened to someone else, and that’s why she barely blinked as she made her way across an empty football field, through a deserted parking lot, to meet a fate she had arrogantly assumed was reserved for other people.

She was a stupid girl.

She paid for it.

LUCKY IN LOVE BLOGHOP

Lucky in Love? Well, are you? It’s a time of luck and wealth…or not. With each romance we find ourselves in a new world of love and memories. Are these just by chance? Is it luck? Welcome to your second annual Lucky in Love Blog Hop where we want to hear about your love, your romance, and how much you love St. Patrick’s Day!!! Are you wearing green? Ready to get pinched…or wait…do you like that?

Below this post is how to win . . . so, please read to the end.

Sláinte is táinte! (pronounced – slawn-chah iss tan-chah). Now, I don’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, per se, as I know the history behind it and cannot condone it, BUT I do love all things Irish and do choose to join in on the fun and heritage events around me. Everything from step dancing (watching only, of course) to great food and fun. So while I wear my snake, I also celebrate my heritage .

I do consider this time of year to be lucky for me though. My youngest was born on the 17th so we’ll be doing up the cake and ice cream instead of the Guinness, lol.

So on that note, I think I’ll leave you with a recipe to use to join chocolate and Guinness . . . what could be better? Seriously?!

Yum. The cake is so easy to make and is a lovely Afternoon Tea treat and also perfect for St Patrick’s Day.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 6 oz/175g sugar
  • 3 oz/ 75g margarine or butter
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 4 tbsp Guinness
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 6 oz/ 170g + 4 tsp self raising flour 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ oz/15g cocoa
  • Chocolate Buttercream or whipped cream as desired

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 350°F/180°C

  • In a large baking bowl cream the sugar with the margarine or butter until light and fluffy.
  • Add half beaten egg and 1 tsp of the extra flour and beat well, then repeat
  • Add 1 tbsp Guinness and 1 tsp flour and stir and repeat.
  • Sieve the baking powder, flour and cocoa and fold gently into the butter and egg mixture. Finally, gently stir in the orange zest.
  • Grease 2 x 8"/20cm cake tins. Divide the mixture between the two tins, and gently spread to create a smooth surface. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes until the cakes are risen, springy to the touch and have shrunk slightly from the edge of the tin. Leave in the tins for 5 mins then turn out and leave to cool on a wire rack.
  • Remove the cakes from the tins and leave to cool on a wire rack. Once cooled Sandwich together with either chocolate cream, or whipped cream as desired.

The cake is delicious filled with fresh cream, or filled and topped with chocolate butter cream.

Glamour Blade ~ #8Sunday

Yeah . . . it’s Weekend Writing Warriors’ 8 Sentence Sunday! How about another 8 sentences from my WIP, Glamour Blade – book 3 in the House Millar series?

Rory’s at the club and is just finishing talking to Chad, the bartender…

A warm shock surged through me as someone ran a hand up my arm. Even through the mesh I could feel the fingers, long and strong, but cool—strange in a place like this.

I knew no human’s touch could cause such a shock. I turned to find the owner of the roving fingers. The stranger trailed his agile digits up, over my shoulder to the back of my neck. I slowly raised my eyes to meet his, curious to see whose hand touched me in such a sensual yet possessive manner.

Wow! Definitely vampire.

Sara always knew she was different from other girls, but she never knew how much. She’d been having dreams all her life. It didn’t bother her when they played out in reality the next day. After all, that happens to everyone sometimes, didn’t it? When the phone rings one morning with devastating news she knew was coming she could no longer ignore her gift. She also couldn’t help wondering if she could have changed the fate of those she loved if only she would have spoken up sooner.

Taking a deep breath she said, “I decided last night after talking to Becca. I wanted to sleep on it to be sure that it was what I wanted, and it is. I haven’t contacted anyone in Florida about this yet, but I will. As for my stuff, I will have to go back and sort through it to see what I’ll be able to keep and what I’ll wind up getting rid of. I’ll go back some time after Dad gets home so you’ll at least have Mom to help out.”

“If I need to do some extra work to help out while she’s away I won’t mind.” James said to Becca before turning his attention back to Sara. “I have one more question for you if you don’t mind.”

“Sure. Shoot.”

“Will you marry me?

Glamour Blade ~ #8Sunday

Yeah . . . it’s Weekend Writing Warriors’ 8 Sentence Sunday! How about another 8 sentences from my WIP, Glamour Blade – book 3 in the House Millar series?

Rory’s at the club and is just finishing talking to Chad, the bartender…

“Well, when you find him, let me know. I want to see what kind of man has you so eager.”

Making the circuit a second time, I headed back to the bar. The hairs on my arms suddenly stood on end. I could feel eyes on me, and while that wasn’t unusual—especially in a club—this, I knew, was more than just some mortal ogling my backside.

Arriving back at the bar, I motioned to my empty pint then turned to face the crowd, and sought the one staring at me. After Chad poured me a fresh pint of ale, I turned to pick it up. That’s when things got interesting.
